Wednesday 23rd November 2011

Dear Parents/Carers,

As I am sure you will know, a day of mass strike action is planned for 30th November. School based staff have faced difficult decisions in recent days as, although many feel strongly about the decisions taken that have led to nationwide strike action, they appreciate that a personal decision to support their union has an adverse effect upon our school community. This is a decision that no-one takes lightly and I am sure you can appreciate their position.

Although there is no requirement for staff to inform us of their intention to strike ahead of the day, all staff whose unions have voted for strike action have volunteered their position in good time so that we are able to plan accordingly. On this occasion, due to staffing shortfalls and my inability to require other staff in school to undertake duties outside of their normal requirements, pupils in classes 5 and 9 should remain at home on 30th November.  At this point in time, it appears that the strike will disrupt a small number of classes in school and that, for many, the day will be undisturbed. This is, of course, subject to change should any staff exercise their right to join the strike at short notice. I will, of course, update you immediately should the current picture change.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Mrs Bailey
