Dear Parents/Carers,                                                                    

Another week and yet another term have today drawn to a close amidst a wonderful community celebration. The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was celebrated today with our very own street party. It was wonderful to see so many of you join in with the celebration! You should have received your celebratory plant pot, designed and decorated by your child to commemorate this momentous event – and we hope you like it! My grateful thanks to the wonderful ‘Jubilee Committee’ who worked hard to create a very special, memorable day for everyone.

Diamond Jubilee Concert at the Leeds Town Hall

On Wednesday, 25 of our pupils ably led by Mrs Thorpe took part in a unique performance before a huge crowd at Leeds Town Hall. Our pupils worked hard to learn a vast range of songs which they sang with heart, soul and talent amongst an enormous massed choir drawn from schools all over Leeds. The concert was attended by the Lord Mayor and the Lord Lieutenant of Leeds, was led by Dougie Scarfe and was the brain child of Dame Fanny Waterman, a 92 year old musician who has dedicated her entire life to inspiring in children the love of music that has clearly given her a lifetime of joy. This, she told us, was inspired by her own performance at Leeds Town Hall, aged 8. Our commitment to music tuition and offering our pupils the opportunity to take part in musical performances of this calibre is underpinned by our own desire to spark lifelong passions and interests... Who knows? What happened on Wednesday may, indeed, lead on to an 85 year career in music for one of our little starlets!

Leeds Book Awards 2012
Last week, six budding authors and enthusiastic readers attended the Leeds Book Awards at the Carriageworks theatre and had a fantastic time meeting some ‘real-life’ authors. Holly Pemberton; Chelsea Fowler; Rachel Williams; Jade Casey; Leon Miller and Safia Al-Janabil formed a book group back in February and over the last few months have read six books which they’ve spent lunch breaks discussing. They then voted on their favourite book and attended the ceremony to find out which author had won the coveted Leeds Book Award Prize. This year, the children also gave a presentation about one of the books. They really did Cookridge Primary School proud as they performed monologues as characters from the book Moon Pie and received some thoroughly deserved fantastic feedback from members of the audience.  Look out for them in years to come as we are sure they are going to achieve great things!

‘Mi casa es tu casa’,  ‘My room and your room

This year sees the third and final year of our global partnership with our Mexican school in Txcala and one of our final projects is to explore the theme of ‘imports’ and where items in our homes come from.  As part of this, children have been sent home with a questionnaire to complete over the holidays. We need as much data as possible so that the children can do some follow-up ICT and maths work after the holidays.  The work we do will be shared with our Mexican partners so your help would be much appreciated.

Friends of Cookridge

I am currently finalising the plans for the playground, where we plan to make some changes over the summer. The PTA have been busy this year raising funds to support our plans in this area – and the children have identified play pieces ranging from £2000 – 14,000!! Please do show your support for school by coming along to the Summer Fayre – undoubtedly the biggest Friends event of the year – on Saturday 30th June. All monies raised will be donated to the playground project this year AND you will have a great time, too!

Sports News
What a wash out! After three glorious weeks of sun, the rain arrived and washed out both the Ubunye Cup and the Year 5/6 Cricket Competition yesterday. The Ubunye Cup will be re-arranged for after the half-term holiday and the cricket competition has a new date- Thursday 14th June. Last week, local MP Greg Mulholland visited us to launch our use of a kwik cricket set, donated by ASDA. Staffing Changes

The summer term in schools always marks a time of change staffing wise, and Cookridge is no exception. This summer we will be bidding farewell to Mrs Thorpe and Mrs Willets, both of whom have served the community well for many years and both of whom will be missed by us all. Mrs Willets will take early retirement, and we wish her all the best for what are bound to be the best years of her life! Mrs Willets’ leadership of our Friends PTA group is of particular note for she has played a key role in this important aspect of school and has coordinated countless discos, Christmas and Summer Fayres, bringing much joy to and raising thousands of pounds on behalf of our school community over the years.  In her years at Cookridge, Mrs Thorpe has created something simply wonderful. Our children regularly perform as part of a band, an orchestra or a choir. The rich musical experience in our school is Mrs Thorpe’s legacy, and it is as a result of her talent and dedication that we have something very special to continue to develop in the years to come. We will be drawing upon the expertise of Artforms to enable us to build on the high quality music provision in school but undoubtedly Mrs Thorpe will be missed by adults and children alike. Mrs Thorpe will be moving on to Oulton Primary and I am glad for them that they will soon discover the joy of music that Mrs Thorpe brings.

In recent weeks, we have made the necessary appointments to join our team at Cookridge. Miss Streams will join us in September and will work in partnership with Mrs Speak, taking joint responsibility for Year 2 next year. We are also delighted to welcome back Mr Maldonado to our Year 5/6 team next year. Mr Maldonado is an experienced colleague who is currently teaching in Bramley. Both Miss Streams and Mr Maldonado are very excited about their new roles and I very much look forward to welcoming them in September.

Class Organisation 2012-13

There will be some change to class organisation next year which takes account of our increasing pupil numbers and one and a half form entry profile. As we take 45 pupils into Reception each year, this necessitates mixed classes throughout the rest of school. Next year (and in subsequent years) we will have a class structure which continues our tradition of having one Reception base led by two class teachers. Next year, Reception will make use of our ‘Funtime’ room as well as their class base and I am confident this decision will improve even further upon our great Reception provision. Into Key Stage 1, we will have three classes – a pure Year 1 class, a mixed Year 1 and 2 class and a Year 2 class. Lower Key Stage 2 will incorporate three mixed Year 3/4 classes, and Upper Key Stage 2 three mixed Year 5/6 classes. All class allocations will be made on age.

Soon after half term, I will share with you your child’s class teacher next year. There will be an opportunity for your child to meet their class teacher during a transition morning on Monday 2^nd July and this will be followed with an opportunity for YOU to meet your child’s class teacher for the coming year in a parent meeting at 3.15 that same day. Please make every effort to come to the meeting on that day, as we hope to share some useful housekeeping information with you for the year ahead but are also looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible and giving you chance to ask any questions you might have.

Attendance
Our attendance this week was 96.5% and is again above our Local Authority attendance target of 95% this year. This term has been our best yet – we have consistently maintained our position above our target across the term and have increased our overall position to 95.5% and –during the past two weeks – both Class 9 and Class 5 have managed to achieve 100% attendance. Please keep up this brilliant picture across the Summer term.. I’m no mathematician, but I still believe that if we sustain a high percentage across the last 6 weeks of the school year, our 2011/12 figure will be even higher that the current 95.5%! Dear Parents/Carers,                                                                    

Unbelievable to think that it is June next week - we really are hurtling towards the Summer break and are knee deep in our preparations for the next school year... Already?! This week, Lee Threadgold was back and working in Class 4 & 5 on our Olympics themed art projects. There is a GREAT range of photos on Class 4’s blog – have a look! By the 12^th July, Lee will have worked in every class in school across the course of the year and the arts projects will be celebrated in a grand opening ceremony to our Sports Day on the 12^th.

Summer Sun!

The sun has finally shone this week and we have managed to get up to the school field to enjoy our lunchtime amongst the greenery. The field is a great place for the children to play and explore and there was much delight in our decision to get onto the field from Wednesday. The field is, however, hot and offers little shade, so please help us get this right for your child in the summer weeks ahead (fingers crossed!). Parents are encouraged to supply a named sunhat and sun cream which your child will be asked to apply before lunch. I would also encourage you to send your child to school with a named water bottle. Whilst all the classrooms in school have a water fountain and your child has access to drinking water throughout the school day, water bottles are more immediately accessible and children tend to sip from them more frequently than they may visit the fountain – which brings obvious benefits. These can also be readily transported at lunchtimes and for PE sessions, which may also take place on the field. One final appeal – to help us return all the cardigans and jumpers which are inevitably stripped at this time of year – please, please, please put a name in them!

Whitby

It’s difficult to believe that a week ago we were all wrapped up in waterproofs, gloves, hats and scarves walking the cliff tops near Whitby, but that’s exactly what we were doing and what a wonderful time we had! I joined the trip on Friday and have to say the Year 5 were an absolute credit to the school. A huge thank you to all the staff who made the trip such a huge success – without a team willing to volunteer their time we couldn’t offer residentials, and we all know these are where school memories are really made!

Miss Cowles

Not so long ago, Miss Cowles left us to begin her maternity leave. On Sunday, 1 day ahead of schedule, Miss Cowles gave birth to a beautiful baby boy and is now a glamorous ‘yummy mummy’ in her own right. Congratulations to Miss Cowles –baby Seth is absolutely scrumptious with of mop of jet black hair and I very much look forward to having that first hold when he visits school.. soon I hope!

Friends – Summer Fayre

Plans are well underway for our annual Summer Fayre – we’re just waiting for a willing teacher to sign up for the ‘Splat the Teacher’ stall! All your favourite stalls will be there - bouncy castles, burgers and bun stalls - plus this year we’re looking to include an ice cream van, a commando assault course and a karaoke. Let’s hope the sun shines on Saturday 30^th June and the day is as fabulous as it sounds. All monies raised at this year’s Summer Fayre will be kindly donated to school for our playground project.. I’m very excited about this and very grateful to the PTA group for all of their hard work at this busy time. Any parents not yet involved who want to be – it’s not too late. Let us know and we’ll keep you busy in the coming weeks!

Jubilee News

Our Jubilee Committee have met this week and finalised arrangements for the day of celebration next Friday 1^st June. Children should wear red, white and blue for the day and parents, carers and grandparents are invited to join us at midday for our ‘street party’ in the playground. Any visitors should come to the playground from 11.30am and are welcome to bring a packed lunch of their own to join the children in our picnic lunch – cross everything for sunshine, please! The afternoon will include a Jubilee singalong and the BIG Jubilee dance – available to view on the school blog or via Youtube – and parents are welcome to stay and join in. A huge thank you to the committee behind the operation – a lovely blend of staff and parents. Mr and Mrs Land, Mrs Applegate and Miss Hobson in particular have been the driving force behind a super range of activities planned alongside the midday highlights, and Mr Land has painted 300 pots white in preparation and even managed to persuade the Lord Lieutenant to open the event and crown our own Queen and Prince Phillip for the day.. We hope you can join us!

Sporting News

Some GREAT news just in.... The Year 5/6 footballers have finished second in the group phase of the Leeds North West League meaning we qualify for the quarter-finals.. This is the first time we have qualified and are awaiting news of our quarter-final fixture. The Year 5/6 football team compete for two trophies next week. On Monday they travel to Priesthorpe High School to play for The Armitage Cup and on Thursday they will contest The Ubunye Cup. Let’s hope their winning form is maintained and we bring home the trophies Mr Gamble so desperately needs to fill his (white?) cabinet!

This is the place to keep up to date with all the sports news for school including club details, news on trips and details about competitions.

Our after school sport provision is going to have a major overhaul for the next academic year and Mr Gamble has been very busy sourcing a wide range of exciting new sporting clubs which will be on offer next year. To ensure you don't miss out on a place, keep checking the blog for the latest information. We are hoping to offer a sport club every night of the week (2 clubs some nights) for the entire school year. The sports will range from football to dance and there will be at least one club for all year groups in school, including Reception. Some clubs will be provided by school staff and these clubs will be free of charge. Other clubs will be run by a sports company and these clubs will cost £1.50 per club per week. This move will add 5 additional clubs per week to our repertoire and engage more of our pupils in as wide a range of sports as possible.
The clubs will be organised into half-termly blocks and children will be able to state their top 3 choices of club for the year – all of which will be organised before the summer holidays so that clubs can start promptly in September. A huge thank you to Mr Gamble who has been making plans for the development of sport at Cookridge with real passion since January. Your completed surveys have given him the inspiration he needed to do something really exciting with this important aspect of school. More details will follow next month.

Trust Status

The Trust consultation draws to a close next Wednesday so if you haven’t already please return your questionnaire. The views expressed in the returned questionnaires will form the basis of the Governing Body’s next decision. Please have your say and raise any questions you may have so that these form part of the decision making process.

Attendance

Our attendance this week was 96.5% and is again above our Local Authority attendance target of 95% this year. Overall this year – September to May – we have managed to maintain a position of 95.5% and are almost 1% up on our position at the last Ofsted – 94.7%. Let’s ensure that we finish the year in a strong position and are able to exemplify good progress in this area – an easy one for us all to get right! Thanks to all parents – and children – who have clearly understood and supported us in our improvement journey this year. Next half term will bring information about the end of year 100% attendance trip, and this year – for the first time – all those children who have maintained attendance above the school target of 95% will be entered into a ‘chancer’ draw, and 10 additional pupils will be able to join the fun. Keep up the great work – I am still optimistic that, with 7 weeks still to go, we can end the year even nearer to 96%... 7 weeks at 100% would be magnificent!

Dear Parents/Carers,                                                               

This week has been quiet in school as our Y5 pupils set off on Wednesday for three days in Whitby. Regular reports from Miss Fowler have kept us abreast of their adventures, and it is clear that adults and children alike have had a whale of a time as they explore the history and geography of the area. Class 6 and 7 have also had a great time in school this week working together to organise a very special event culminating in the opening of a Greek cafe.  Miss Hobson and Mrs Speak have also met up with our Commenius Project partner schools this week but in a slightly less glamorous location than they are used to... Birmingham! Our partner schools will be visiting us later this year and we look forward to welcoming colleagues from across Europe into school.

Lunchtime update
We have taken delivery of our new furnishings for the dining hall which include additional tables, a new clearing station, cutlery rack and salad bar. In the next few weeks, we will also take delivery of a second clearing station (to ease congestion!) and brand new lidded jugs – at the request of the children. Those parents whose children have a packed lunch will have noticed that your child is now bringing their food waste home. This decision has been taken in an effort to reduce food waste, as I noted with dismay the enormous amount of waste in the lunch hall  – two large waste bins largely full every single day. The waste was a combination of school meal waste AND packed lunch waste – with sometimes unopened sandwiches, yoghurts, fruit and other expensive packed lunch items. In asking the children to bring their waste home, I am hoping that you will see for yourselves the food that is not eaten and encourage your child to eat the lunches you are preparing. I appreciate that the lunch boxes and bags are coming home messier than they were previously but would ask you to persevere with this in order to encourage your child to have a healthy, balanced and nutritious meal at this very important time of the day.

Behaviour in school

The positive behaviour policy introduced in school in October is now in its fourth term and we are very pleased with the impact of the simple measures put into place. All children in school are committed members of their ‘team’ and actively seek to earn team points every day for all kinds of reasons – their learning, their attitude to their work, their manners, a kind and caring attitude.. Whatever they do that’s worthy of reward, we aim to spot it and each of the four ‘house teams’ are now accruing an average of 400 team points each week. I see on average 20 children per day who have earned 5 team points in any one day and so visit me for a special Head teachers award. Next week, nominations will be made for this half terms ‘Learnatics’ and I look forward to sharing a pizza lunch with the children across school who have been recognised by their peers to be brilliant learners – a real highlight of the term for me, certainly.

Alongside all of this positive recognition, we have also applied a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to any instances of ‘gross misconduct’ – including bullying, assault of another pupil and inappropriate conduct towards adults in school. Each instance of negative behaviour is considered and sanctions may include internal exclusion during play and lunchtimes and parts of the school day, where appropriate. With the full support of the Governing Body, we are consistently applying the policy and contacting parents to ensure we can work together to quickly reset behaviours and get back into positive dialogue. Through this policy, we are making a difference and creating a school environment where everyone feels safe and cared for and everyone can thrive. Playground misdemeanours are down from 25 incidents per week to around 3 at the moment. With these measures, we are getting to where we want to be. Our policy is entirely focused on spotting and rewarding our hard working, enthusiastic, caring and considerate young people – all 300 of whom are capable of achieving great things.

Friends of Cookridge

Last night, the PTA met to make arrangements for the Summer Fayre. This was a great meeting that was well attended and it was a delight to welcome some new parents to the mix. The event sounds wonderful – so please set Saturday 30^th June aside to come along and support your school.

As we begin the summer months, can I please reiterate once again that – in line with an agreement made with all local schools – holiday absence will not be authorised.

Jubilee News

The plans for the Jubilee are taking shape, with a special committee now formed in school to oversee the event. Our day of celebration will be on Friday 1^st June and children will be asked to wear red, white and blue for the day. Parents are invited to join us for part of the celebrations over lunchtime, so keep an hour free if you can! More news next week once the committee have met and agreed on the events!

To say this was only a 4 day week, we have certainly crammed a lot in! As well as a busy and productive 4 days in class, we’ve had several meetings to discuss the Trust proposals, I’ve met with several companies to discuss our Summer plans for the playground, we had a photographer in school on Wednesday to capture some fabulous shots for our brand new school prospectus and we’ve had a very special visitor in school to help us in our endeavour to become the best school in the country....

 

Debbie Hepplewhite: Phonics Royalty

On Thursday and Friday this week we were privileged to welcome Debbie Hepplewhite into school. Debbie has worked with Oxford University Press to develop a range of systematic synthetic phonics resources which we are now using in school. She has also worked with the Government to advise about best practice and is involved in the training of hundreds of teachers nationally in this field. This is the third day that Debbie has spent with us and she observed and gave feedback about our current phonics sessions, as well as leading model sessions in class – with as many of our teaching team as we could fit in one room at once! This really has been the Rolls Royce of training experiences, and we are delighted that Debbie is so impressed with the determination and work ethic of staff and pupils at Cookridge that she has asked us to continue to work with her with a view to us becoming a model school, demonstrating outstanding practice in this field. Since its launch in January, the synthetic phonics sessions have already had a dramatic impact on reading and writing across school and we are very excited about the practical implications of such a simple and effective tool in our armoury. We all recognise that our aspiration to be exceptional is the first step in our journey and I feel that we travelled a few extra miles in that journey with Debbie’s advice and support this week. My thanks to the teaching teams who entered into the rigorous dialogue and invested a further two hours of their time in staff training after school – this is not ordinary commitment we are seeing here, and will lead to great things!

Stephen Lawrence Award

Last week’s post brought some fabulous news: we received our Stephen Lawrence Award! The staff and children have worked very hard towards this accolade for many years, and it is testament to the calibre of the International School Council and the work led by Mrs Speak that it was recognised not only by Ofsted but also by the judges who visited to assess us for the SLA as an outstanding, embedded and thriving element of our school. Well done to all of those involved in this achievement, and particular thanks to Mrs Speak who continues to develop excellent opportunities for our children to develop global understanding.

Friends ‘PTA’ Meeting
The next meeting of the Friends of Cookridge will be on Thursday 17^th May at 6.30pm. Please come along if you have an hour to spare. We have one further event to organise – the acclaimed Summer Fayre – and it is not too late to get involved this year and form part of the PTA going forward into 2012-13. Events such as these are only as good as the volunteers who come forward to shape them, so please come along if you are able to get involved.

Trust Status

On Wednesday, only 11 parents attended the information meeting about the proposal to form a Cooperative Trust with local schools Ralph Thoresby, Iveson and Ireland Wood. I appeal to more parents to voice their views on this proposal through return of the parent questionnaires, available at the office or to download if you have lost yours. This and further information is available to download on the school website http://www.cookridgeprimaryschool.org.uk/our-school/trust.php. The views expressed in the returned questionnaires will form the basis of the Governing Body’s next decision. If we do not gather parents’ views, then we are likely to assume parents are happy with the proposals and may – on that basis – move into the next, formal stage of the process. Please do not miss your opportunity to have your say.

Our attendance this week was a fabulous 96.6% and is again above our Local Authority attendance target of 95% this year. Overall this year – September to April – we are at 95.4%. We are aiming to exceed all expectations this year to achieve 96% If we are able to sustain a figure of 97% or more over the summer months, it is entirely possible that we achieve our personal target this year and – more importantly – that our children are getting the primary school experience they need which is inextricably intertwined with academic success through to GCSE and beyond. Please continue to give your child the opportunity they need to succeed by ensuring they are in school every day.

Jubilee News

Plans for the Jubilee Celebration are beginning to take shape! We will celebrate this momentous occasion on Friday 1^st June with a ‘street’ party, and all children are invited to take a special ‘themed’ school meal on this day. Please send payment to Mrs Hyde marked ‘Jubilee School Meal’ by Monday 14^th May. Children will participate in a range of activities across the course of the day – top secret (or unknown?!) at this point – but what we do know is that you should begin looking for red, white and blue clothing for your child to wear on the day, and pencil in an hour or two of your time, for we are hoping to make a bit of a community event of things!

Another incredible week in school with an improvement in the weather at last! Let’s hope May brings the sunshine.. This week, we’ve had a fantastic Y2 trip, some incredible musical instruments made in Year 1 and some astounding writing from right across school has been brought to me by proud authors all very keen to share their creations. I am very impressed with the quality of learning happening right across school...

On Wednesday, you received information via ‘pupil post’ about the consultation process we have begun to explore obtaining ‘Trust Status’ in partnership with a group of local schools. This – and further – information is available to download on the website http://www.cookridgeprimaryschool.org.uk/our-school/trust.php or a paper version of the extended information booklet is available on request at the office. Please take the time to complete and return the parent questionnaires that inform the Governing Body of the wider community’s views on this matter. If you are able to, please attend the Trust Information Meeting on Wednesday 9^th May at 5.30pm where the Governing Body – and a member of the Cooperative Trust Partnership – will endeavour to answer all your questions.

Mr Gamble and his sportsmen have been incredibly busy...!

The Year 4 Match vs Newlaithes Primary on 27/4/12 was a fantastic team performance in very tricky playing conditions due to the rain! Some children were playing in their first ever football match for the school and can hold their heads up high as we won 3-2. Goals were scored by Nathan Brown, Yacine and an own goal. Man of the match went to Liam Jones for a fantastic performance in the centre of midfield.

The Year 3 Match vs Newlaithes Primary on 27/4/12 was another great match. The whole team were playing their first football match for school and for some it was their first football match ever! We have a promising bunch of Year 3 footballers and they played very well. The score finished 1-1. A fair result as both teams had chances to win it and matched each other for the entire game. The goal was scored by Aden who also was man of the match. A great performance!

The Year 5/6 Match vs Ireland Wood on 3/5/12. What a fantastic team performance, the best by far in Mr Gamble's three years at Cookridge. We went into the game knowing only a win was good enough if we wanted to qualify for the quarter-finals and win we did 11-1. We worked extremely hard on a wet and boggy pitch after the recent weather and the quality of our goals, passing and sheer teamwork and organisation were outstanding. The goals were scored by Dominic Purrell (3), Mackenzie Turner (2), Parsa Sahrae (2), Robbie Palacios (2) and Faisal Alqhatani (2). ALL 10 players were brilliant and could easily have won the man of the match trophy but in the end Mackenize was chosen. He was a constant threat to their defence, popped up in our own area defending when he had to, he took his two goals sensationally and ran their Year 6 defence ragged even though he's only Year 4! Brilliant.

I'd just like to add a huge thank you to all parents who have helped with transport and watched us play this season in the league. I couldn't have done it without your support. Let’s hope results go our way in the final league matches and we qualify for the quarter-finals for the first time.
 
The Leeds Rhinos Trip.
Thank you for the terrific response for the Rhinos trip to watch Wigan Warriors on Friday 1st June, we received over 60! Unfortunately, there are only 35 places available. In order to be as fair as possible, I will draw names out of a hat. Children will be informed whether they have been chosen or not next week.

Funtime Club and Little Sunshine’s Pre-School Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting for Cookridge Funtime Club will be held on Thursday 24^th May at 5.30pm in the Community Room here at school (duration approximately 1 hour). Any parents that use either pre-school or the before and after school club are very welcome to attend as well as anyone thinking of using these facilities in the next school year. If you can, then please let Ann Sadler in Funtime or Julie Bird in Pre-school know in advance if you are attending.

Attendance

Our attendance this week was a fabulous 97.8% and is well above our Local Authority attendance target of 95% this year. This is a very clear indication that the work we are doing as a community to make this simple and powerful improvement to our children’s learning experience is having an impact.  Please continue to make your child’s attendance at school a priority and ensure that whenever they are fit and well enough to do so, they are in school. Overall this year – September to April – we are at 95.4%. We are aiming to exceed all expectations this year to achieve 96% Please note that attendance of over 97% for just two weeks has already increased the overall figure by 0.1% - it’s that easy! If we are able to sustain a figure of 97% or more over the summer months, it is entirely possible that we achieve our personal – aspirational - target this year.

Jubilee News

On Friday 1^st June - the last day of this half term - we will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. All children are invited to take a special ‘themed’ school meal on this day – we will be eating a range of assorted sandwiches, cheese and onion rolls, pizza fingers and iced fingers in a traditional ‘street party’ – exporting all of the dining furniture out in the school playground! If your child would like to have a school meal on this day the cost will be £1.85 for Reception to Year 4 and £1.90 for Years 5 and 6. Please send payment to Mrs Hyde marked ‘Jubilee School Meal’ by Monday 14^th May. We are still working on the finer details of the celebration across the day, but it is hoped that many of you may be able to join us for the lunchtime ‘street party’ and sing-a-long.

Coffee Morning

The coffee morning this week was very well attended and a great opportunity to hear your views. Mrs Smith and I had many great conversations about all kinds of everything – raising funds, improving communication, the changes to the curriculum, frustrations about homework systems.. We really do listen to what parents are saying and the things that we talked about today will factor in our planned improvements. For those parents who are not able to attend the coffee morning, please feel free to share your views with me via the website message board, or more directly via email baileys06@leedslearning.net  It is really important that you make us aware of the things that matter to you and the ways in which you feel we can get to the outstanding place we aspire to be. The next coffee morning will be on Wednesday 30^th May 2012.

Next week, we have Debbie Hepplewhite in school for two days phonics and reading training.. Debbie is a very significant voice in this field nationwide and has advised the Government about the best practice in the best schools. We are very excited to welcome her to Cookridge, and really looking forward to her advice...
