Dear Parents/Carers,
Another great week in school with plenty going on!
This week has seen me get back into the classroom, which is always a brilliant
way to really get back to grips with the extraordinary job that I love so much.
I hope the Y6’s have enjoyed it half as much as me?! Y4 returned from
residential full of news on Wednesday tea time, and our teaching and learning
review on Thursday was a great success. Today’s World Book day was a fabulous
end to the week and a reason for us all to just enjoy a good story, free of the
challenge of sorting adjectives from adverbs which can dominate our day to day
literacy. How VERY refreshing!
Teaching and Learning Review
Our Leeds City Council School Improvement Partner from
- Trish Lawson – was in school on Thursday. Trish conducted a Teaching and
Learning Review with us, observing lessons right across school. She was very
impressed with what she saw and commented on the beautiful school environment,
the quality of displays of children’s learning and the happy and calm
atmosphere in school. We also concluded the review with a very positive
headline figure of 80% of our lessons good or even better – with outstanding
lessons increasingly a feature of our school. This is a very exciting benchmark
for us, and evidences excellent progress against the improvement agenda that
Ofsted set us in October 2011. It is testament to the hard work and dedication
of all the staff that such rapid improvements have been made and this is the
right time for me to humbly thank them for their daily endeavours. School
improvement is about an entire team of staff pulling together to effect change,
and the growth of some of our teachers has been simply remarkable. The other
half of the equation, of course, is your children. In all observations, the children
were utterly engrossed: you can’t have good lessons without good learners and I
was one very proud lady as Trish commented on the behaviour for learning our
children demonstrated – without exception. As the data also evidences great
improvement in the past 18 months, we await the Inspectors call with increasing
confidence. Watch this space. Ofsted provide a portal for parental feedback on
the nation’s schools and it would be wonderful to gather your views via http://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/
.
Parent Consultations
Our second parent consultations of the year are due
to take place during the final week of this half term, week commencing 25th
March. You will receive your appointment letters today and I would ask you to
return the slips by Friday 15th March so that appointments can be
allocated. Thank you.
Y4 Residential
Our Y4 trip to Robin Wood concludes our fourth
residential of the year – and OF COURSE they loved it!! Robin Wood Activity
Centre has hosted us twice this year, and it’s certain to see us return next
year as both Y4 and 5 have had an absolute ball as they’ve tried new challenges
on land, in the air and even on the sea (well... a lake, anyhow!) Residential
visits have involved over 100 children in school this year... Well done to every single one of you – that’s
a whole lot of adventure!
Y6 photographs
Y6 parents should have received the Year
6 photograph proof. A full size photo can be viewed in the window by the entrance
door. Orders are to be returned by Friday 22nd March. Thanks.
World Book Day
Thanks to Miss Fowler and Miss Hobson, World Book
Day today was simply fab. School wide great stories, amazing costumes,
incredible PJ’s, hot chocolate, marshmallows and biscuits: do Friday’s get much
better than this? Your child will bring home with them their £1.00 world book
day voucher which can be used in any book shop towards the cost of a book. To more
readily allow you and your child to spend your voucher, we have a Scholastic
Book Fair in school next week from Monday 11th March until Thursday 14th March.
The stalls will be open from 8.30 each morning and once again at 3.05 each
night. Come along and buy one – each pound spent at the Book Fair also earns
money for our school library!
Red Nose Day
Next Friday 15th March is RED NOSE DAY.
Miss Hobson has finalised events and these are they:- Wear RED
for the day (of course!) and bring along a £1.00 donation to RND2013 for the
pleasure!
Bring BUNS to be sold at playtime... And up to 20p to buy one!
Take part in WACKY RACES... Be prepared to look silly and have fun on the field (weather permitting). We will be doing a range of silly races – included the red nose and spoon race.. (what else?)

next week after the winter break. Football resumes on Monday with Netball
taking place on Thursday. If your child is interested in joining one of these

(netball) to see if there are places available.
Job

Last week, we notified our community of vacancies
for lunchtime play leaders. This role is really critical to us as lunchtime is
a really important aspect of the school day. We aim to continue to develop our
lunchtime provision and are looking for the right people to join us to extend
our range of traditional games and activities on the playground. If this sounds
like something you could do, Monday-Friday from 11.45-1.00, then please ask Mrs
Hall or Mrs Hyde for an application form.
In addition to that, I would like to draw your
attention to the following vacancy that has arisen due to the growing number of
children opting for hot school meals.
