Dear
Parents/Carers,
This week, our Y6 children have
been out on their residential visiting Weardale for three days of intrepid
exploring. The children – and staff – have had a ball (of course) and will no
doubt sleep well this weekend! Enormous thanks to the staff team who
volunteered their time for this cause – without their dedication, memorable
experiences such as these simply wouldn’t be possible. You can see photos from
across the week on the blog. Once again, thanks team!
Poetry
Slam Competition – Finals!
This week, children have been
performing the poems they have learned ‘off by heart’ in front of their
classmates. This is a big task, and staff right across school have been
impressed and challenged in selecting the finalists for next week’s even bigger
performances, in front of the entire key phase! Four finalists from each phase
will be narrowed down to two. I am sure that the eight finalists’ performances
at the Summer Fair on 21st June will be amazing! Well done to all
who took part and fingers crossed to all of you still in the race.
Year 2 Skipping Festival
On Wednesday, Year 2 had the first part of an exciting city
wide skipping initiative and thoroughly enjoyed themselves! The morning
consisted of learning how to skip, practicing different skipping techniques and
learning how to play a wide range of skipping games for use at home or in the
playground. The second part of the scheme is to compete at Benton Park
High School on Friday 11th July against other primary schools in a skipping
festival! Good luck Year 2!
Summer
Fair
It is nearly time for the biggest
Friends event of the year – the annual Summer Fair Extravaganza! Please make
sure you put next Saturday 21st June, 2-4pm, in your diary – it is
always a good day and a lovely get together! In the run-up to the day, we will
be gathering donations of all kinds to help the stalls look tantalising and
luscious: please help by bringing one or more of the following during the week
ahead:
Monday
16 June: ‘Bring a Bottle Day’ – bottles in all shapes and sizes
for the bottle tombola and jam jars – filled with sweets or ‘goodies’ for the
jar stall.
Tuesday
17 June: ‘Toy Day’ – are there items that your children are
getting too old for? Toys, games, soft toys and teddies – we will take them off
your hands!
Wednesday
18 June: ‘Entertainment & Chocolate Day’ – books, CD’s, and
chocolate in all shapes and sizes!
Thursday
19 June: ‘Gift Day’
– jewellery, gifts, toiletries.
Friday
20 June: ‘Non-uniform & Cake Day’ – cakes, buns and other
home produce!
As
an extra incentive to bring in some items for the fair, every child who brings
some items in for the fair, can come in non-school uniform on Friday 20th.
Attendance
Mrs Brosnan is busy tallying up
the final count for those pupils across school who have earned a seat on the
bus for maintaining their 100% attendance since September. With our outstanding
attendance this year, I am ultra-confident that this will be our largest ever trip
to the movies…. Invites will be coming out to pupils on Friday 27th
June , for the trip on Friday 18th July. Nail biting times! This
week it’s Class 3 who have nailed it with a near perfect 99.6% !
